At the start of the race solo 2010 of "Figaro", was convened in Lorient au gratin of browsers of the time. Special feature, one of them was simultaneously embarked on several boats: MaxSea. It is the name of a computer navigation system developed and marketed by the company of the same name. Based in Bidart on the basque coast, this company became the world leader in this type of software. It team more than 30,000 boats in the world, and not that sort or catamarans, but also of the trawlers, yachts, even the cargo.
"This is two years that I sailed with MaxSea on board", said shortly before taking the sea Navigator Isabelle Joschke. Until then, this software used it in the preparation of the races, "and I do not myself to shave-rock." I often took a margin of half a mile to counteract a danger, especially when it was not visible. "Today, I have the habit to go more closely.
In its latest version, Time Zero, MaxSea assists therefore the bruisers of the seas in their navigation, but also after, during the debriefings. Combining techniques, and digital level of precision is up to 1.5 to 1.5 metres. Translated into 12 languages, this tool is the objective of departure from the company: equip each boat an individual computer. With all the declensions with: display of the maps in "seamless" mode, digital weather files received on board and updated, figuration in three dimensions of the seabed. The 2008-2009 Edition of the Vendée Globe was the first consecration of MaxSea Time Zero due to the success of sea disruptive, Michel Desjoyeaux racing stable.
"In 1984, in my housing which gave to the Cathedral of Bayonne, I started strumming on my Macintosh, remembers Brice Pryszo, and I created an algorithm of routing based on the method of the isochronous." In 1985, the naval architect of training launches computer and sea to become MaxSea International. Developing the capabilities of a PC on a ship with only a 12-volt power supply, this company has today some 30 engineers. With its subsidiaries, it displays a turnover of EUR 6 million. And prides itself on top of the browsers who trust him: Yves Parlier, Maud Fontenoy, Franck Cammas, Loïck Peyron, Ellen MacArthur without forgetting Philippe Poupon, Eric Tabarly, Laurent Bourgnon.
But society has other strings to his bow as the NavNet3D software for large yachts, and previous models, this time for fishing and the marine market. The first versions for the pleasure indeed quickly took derivatives for trawlers (especially on the northern seas) and freighters. In the 1990s, MaxSea is trying to establish themselves directly in North America, but it is not just one. In 2004, the alliance with the Japanese maritime giant Furuno opens new oceans. Specialist in sonar, radar and automatic pilots, this company of Kobe, which weighs 800 million euros in sales and employs 1,500 people, brings its technical and commercial force. "This partnership we had master of our capital, said Jean-Baptiste Caulonque, Director-General, and we close Asian, Japanese, Korean, or Chinese fleets." Fishing represented up to half of the turnover of MaxSea. However, for several months the pleasure is the most dynamic segment. And the international sales will up to 70 of annual turnover.
MaxSea was also able to broaden its horizons: its MapMédia subsidiary is dedicated to marine three-dimensional mapping while MaxSea Naval launches nets from Madrid to sectors of the fishing.
